PBR Staff Writer Published 07 May 2012

Abbott Nutrition has entered into collaboration with Syngene, a subsidiary of Biocon Group, to set up a nutrition research and development (R&D) center in India.

The R&D center will focus on the development of science-based nutrition products for maternal and child nutrition and diabetes care.

Abbott Nutrition Global R&D and Scientific Affairs divisional vice president Robert Miller said the strategic collaboration with Syngene will accelerate the design, development and delivery of science-based, affordable nutrition products in India.

The new R&D center is anticipated to commence operations in June 2012.

Biocon founder, chairman and managing director Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said the combined market insights and nutrition science expertise of the two organizations will enable them to address the immediate needs by developing affordable nutrition products for the Indian population.

Abbott offers a variety of nutritional products in India including PediaSure, Similac, Mama's Best, Ensure, Glucerna and Prosur.
